Two things..
GM Building Hybrids for Good Press, and Not Much Else
Now.. I’m not that car-savvy when it comes to everything that’s inside of it, so I didn’t know all of that. Then again, I know a co-worker who has a lease contract with Honda, and gets a new car every three years. He recently got a Civic Hybrid, and it’s saving him loads of money in fuel. He fills up the tank once every 100 Kms.
But in any event, I’m really not surprised to hear this. GM has been the latest on my personal chopping block, after reading This Article about the worst cars list of 2006, and seeing GM’s latest minivan on there, which it gave to Ford, Buick, Saturn and Chevrolet. I was actually quite disappointed, because I had been seeing that minivan a lot lately and I applauded the new design. I now wish I had actually gotten a chance to try one out at the autoshow.
But anyway, that kind of sneaky underhandedness from a big company like that is just typical. This conforming crap really does give itself a kick in the ass. Instead of conforming to an ignorant belief, Bob, why don’t you lead your company down a better road for once and actually speak up about the negative impact of hybrids? Actually solidify your facts so that the rest of the auto industry actually wakes up and stops the ridiculous debachle? That would impress me. That would change my attitude about GM. but for now, you’re all a bunch of idiots.
The concern I have with people that have a piece of paper stating thier holyness in the technology industry
I have been shown tonight, a second case of utter stupidity from someone whos “graduated from university with a degree” in some kind of technology thing.
The first time was when I fixed Luis’ computer for him. Andrew and I went to his houseto watch a movie one day, and I had jumped on his computer before it started. I asked him if I could do some regular scans on his computer to check for nasties (I’m OCD that way), and he said sure.
All throughout the movie, Antivir’s acoustic alarm was beeping in the background, notifying us of another new virus. At one point, it continuously chimed for about six minutes.
Later on that evening when I had been home for a few hours, Luis IM’s me and tells me that I’m not allowed to touch his computer ever again. Why? His dad says so. Uhm.. I just did you a big favour, buddy. But apparently I didn’t, and why? Because his father has been working in this business for years, and he knows what he’s talking about, and I’m not allowed to touch it again.
And here I am thinking, well, if you’re such a bloody genius, why was your home computer being totally assraped by every virus the internet has ever seen?
mmmmhm. Not impressed. So tonight, a similar scenario happens, but this one is far more entertaining.
Anashe, one of my best friends, has always relied on me to come over and help her with computer problems. I usually agree, and am there all night fixing a horrible mess that she’s left (one night, cleanup removed something like 2 gigs of crap, another night, I deleted a hidden folder that a virus was maintaining on her computer, a literal database of viruses, totalling over 3 gigs).
Tonight, she talks to me and tells me that I’m not allowed to go near her computer again. Why? Her cousin said so. Whos her cousin? Oh, he just graduated from York university with a masters degree.
To make things short and sweet, he criticized my software, and is using the most basic, assnine, ridiculous maintenance method for her computer I have ever heard of, and will ever hear of. Guess what it is?
It’s the equivalent of spending thousands of dollars on Alice, sending her into a tornado, and watching it get ripped to shreds – every month.
Yes, that’s right – this man’s plan, the man who graduated from university with a degree in this stuff – has resorted to simply reformatting her computer once every month. No security package included, just simply rip the system out and start again.
I guess what he doesn’t understand is that viruses can be anywhere. In image files, in music, in programs, in everything. Wiping the core every month isn’t going to do a lot of good in this day and age, and there’s a very high chance that her personal files and programs could be lost in the process, especially if he’s doing it once a month. That’s just bloody ridiculous. I have never heard of anything stupider in my entire technological life.
So I sincerely find it interesting that those who have gone to school, studied and made this stuff thier lives tend to be the ones that spew out the most bullshit.
Anyway, few other things.. It’s me and Mery’s one year anniversary today! WOOOOO!! XD Check out what I made her Here.
Love you so much! n__n <#<#<#
Anyway, that’s it for now. =D
